Hi, friends! Another busy week as I am getting back into the routine of being in clinic. I can’t believe we are already halfway through September and the weather is starting to cool off, I’m not ready for summer to end so soon. I know a lot of people are in similar situations, but I feel like this was such a wasted year being stuck inside for a majority of it and I worry that entering cold & flu season will make things even worse. Although I am looking forward to some snowy days and reading inside curled up with a blanket and coffee and ski season (hopefully we get one!!). I’m still steadily reading a few books a week despite being busy. Reading is my ideal way to unwind so it has become a staple in my daily routine! Now to get to the books:

Aurora Rising by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff:
I’ve seen this series all over lately and knew I had to read it. I really enjoyed Illuminae and have been a fan of other space sci-fi stories in the past. So far I am really enjoying the writing – it is funny & sarcastic while still building a complex world. The world is a bit huge and overwhelming but I’m getting more familiar with it the more I read. While nothing will beat my Lunar Chronicles space squad, I have a feeling I will love these characters as well.
What did you recently finish reading?
What You Wish For by Katherine Center: 3⭐️ This is my 3rd Katherine Center book so far and while they are always enjoyable, I didn’t love this one. Both Sam & Duncan had some serious trauma that I don’t feel like the plot spent enough time on and while their romance was sweet, I like a little more steaminess when I’m reading a romance. Still an enjoyable read though!
Woven in Moonlight by Isabel Ibañez: 4⭐️ A beautiful, magical world loosely based on Bolivian culture and politics. This story follows Ximena, the decoy queen for her people, as she navigates through the world of her usurpers and enemy – or are they? I really enjoyed this complex fantasy world & the delicious sounding food (yum!) and am definitely looking forward to the next companion novel.
What do you think you’ll read next?
The Southern Book Club’s Guide to Slaying Vampires by Grady Hendrix: Yet another library book that I have been waiting ages for. It seems like a quirky, creepy vampire book and I cannot wait to start reading it.
Fried Green Tomatoes and Steel Magnolias meet Dracula in this Southern-flavored supernatural thriller set in the ’90s about a women’s book club that must protect its suburban community from a mysterious and handsome stranger who turns out to be a blood-sucking fiend.
Patricia Campbell had always planned for a big life, but after giving up her career as a nurse to marry an ambitious doctor and become a mother, Patricia’s life has never felt smaller. The days are long, her kids are ungrateful, her husband is distant, and her to-do list is never really done. The one thing she has to look forward to is her book club, a group of Charleston mothers united only by their love for true-crime and suspenseful fiction.
